Richmond Girls!

… because chess is a girl power game.

At Richmond Junior Chess Club, we believe in girls. Girls, just like boys, can go far, gain great skills, make life-long friends, and have oodles of fun along the way – all through playing chess.

We recognise that the current chess landscape is not always very girl-friendly. We aim to provide an inclusive environment where all children are treated with respect, and we have equally high aspirations for our girls as we do for our boys.

At RJCC, classes and competitions are mixed. All our groups, from beginners right through to the advanced, have significant numbers of girls attending regularly. Sometimes, the girls are in the majority!

Once a month, we offer our girls the opportunity to train separately, with a top female chess player. Our girls classes are open to girls from other clubs too. They offer an opportunity to get to know each other better, and to learn and focus without testosterone-fuelled distractions.

RJCC competes in the EPSCA girls U11 and has sent two teams to the new Women’s 4NCL league. Where appropriate, girls are invited to join our mixed teams too.
