Background to the Tournament

Dear Parents,

We were in position this evening to confirm our U14 and U18 teams.

However, to our enormous surprise and huge disappointment, we phoned the organiser of the Jamboree in the middle of our conference call to decide the teams, and were informed that the event had been cancelled, without anyone actually having been told that the event had been cancelled.

At Richmond Juniors, we would hope never to disappoint our kids and teenagers in this manner, and hence have decided on the following emergency rectification. We will hold on Sunday at Orleans Park School an ECF rated Standard Play over three rounds. We will organise this as round-robin groups of four, with a small Swiss to absorb the final numbers.

To sweeten the deal, we will include cash prizes, medals and book prizes.

We understand that this may not suit everyone, so please let us know immediately if you wish to withdraw. We also understand without the travelling that some may be able to make it who otherwise would not; if this is the case, please let us know by Saturday evening.

No fee will apply – I cannot think of a better bargain in fact than three rated Standard games offered for free, including a cash prize for the winner of each round-robin.Our Smart Boards will be in use elsewhere, but we will photograph scoresheets and enter the scores manually for a tournament page on our web-site and on chess-results.com.

We apologise profusely for this change of plans, but we were completely in the dark regarding the cancellation, and can only hope that other associations will be able to put emergency plans in place, as we have been able to.
