Girls Classes

We recognise that girls can find the world of chess unwelcoming and difficult due to the preponderance of boys participating. We try therefore to encourage girls who are finding the transition from playing at home or playing at a school chess club into the world of competitive chess difficult. We recognise that a strong female lead can inspire and give confidence.

Accordingly, we have held monthly Girls Classes for many years, which have been lead by various notable women in the world of chess, including International Master Susan Lalic and FIDE Master Akshaya Kalaiyalahan (both multiple winners of the British Women’s Championship), WFM Shahanah Schmid (twice Swiss women’s champion), Agnieszka Milewska and Marie Gallagher (former Manager of Richmond Junior Chess Club).
